The Psychology of Taste and New Healthy Meal Plan
I’m trying to finish up a Psych class as a pre-requisite for the Masters of Nutrition. The chapter I was reviewing today had an interesting insight into acquiring a taste for food.
Another case of non-associative learning in motivation is the effect of mere exposure to a stimulus complex. Both small children and big college students like a flavor better if they have experienced it before than if they haven’t. Robert Zanjonc finds that (flavors) become more positive as subjects are repeatedly exposed to them.
This concluded that mere exposure to something (and I suggest early in life), leads to more acceptance for those foods later. Even if they don’t accept the foods when exposed. What we learn… expose your kids to a variety of food.
Anyway, on to the Healthy Meal Plan for this week. Lot’s of links!
