The New York City Marathon is held on the first Sunday of November and attracts professional competitors and amateurs from all over the world. Shalane Flanagan has inched American women’s distance running a notch closer to history. The 28 year old finished second to Kenya’s Edna Kiplagat in the ING New York City Marathon, the best finish by a U.S. woman since 1990.
