Am I ugly?

Here’s Liz Atwood with this week’s Tween Tuesday:

“How do I look?”

Everybody asks that question. You try on a new pair of jeans and wonder if they make your butt look fat. You try a new shade of lipstick and you ask your girlfriend if the color is too bright.

But in a disturbing trend, girls are posting videos on YouTube and Tumblr asking if they are ugly. Their insecurities aren’t new, but the access to social media puts teen angst out there for all to see. Kids who already have low self esteem are exposing themselves to ridicule and I wonder if their parents even know it.

Boys seem less likely to post these videos. I guess they might not think it is manly to ask the world about their appearance. But a

Radioactive Strontium Found in Fish Posted on 2012-03-07 06:00:01 in Environment |

Low levels of Strontium-90, an isotope produced by nuclear reactions, were found in fish caught in August 2011, where groundwater from the plant runs into the Connecticut River. In February 2012, trace amounts of radioactive strontium have been found in bass fished 150 miles away.  This latter contamination is hypothesized to be the residue from above-ground nuclear testing in the 1940s and 1950s and the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown in the Soviet Union in 1986, though such suggestion remains unclear.
